Maud Schmitt & Katerina Boyuklieva
We met in Paris in 2003, while studying fashion design and pattern making and became really good friends right from the start! After our graduations, Kate went back to Bulgaria, her home country, and I, Maud stayed in Paris, trying to make a living of our passion: creating clothes. Kate opened her own shop in her hometown, selling unusual and handmade designs, while I sold some handmade designs in selected independent shops across France.
So we chose different paths but stayed in touch regularly. Then, one day, we decided we expected more from life. So MaudiKa was born! It is the contraction of our forenames: Maud, i (& in Bulgarian) and Ka (from Katerina).
At first, we dealt with wedding planning and made-to-order wedding dresses, but then, it became apparent it wasn’t enough; so we focused on the gowns and launched a mini-collection, supplied in a cute boho Parisian shop, Les Mégères in rue de Cotte, in the 12th arrondissement. It was successful so we decided to carry on with the wedding gowns!
And from this day, we are more and more passionate about the dream that is the wedding industry. We always had this passion to create unusual and magnificent dresses, so it’s the perfect way to fulfil it. We love vintage lace, chiffon and silk and use as much as possible of them!
Our combined inspirations come from movie costumes, designers fashion shows to Edwardian era outfits.
And, cherry on the cake, all our dresses are handmade and unique!
